LONDON (AFP) ??” The leader of Britain's main opposition Conservative party, Michael Howard, took the novel grade of publishing a set of personal beliefs he sense of possible fulfilments will help his party strive power from Tony Blair's ruling Labour party at the nearest general election.
Howard published 16 declarations each beginning with the words "I believe" or "I do not believe" in a manifesto that was being emailed to 100000 Conservative supporters across Britain.
Howard began his document with the words: "I believe it is natural for men and women to want health, wealth and happiness for their families and themselves."
Attacking what he views as Labour's tight grip upon society, he added:
"I believe r tape, bureaucracy regulations, inspectorates, commissions, quangos, 'czars', 'units' and 'targets' came to help and defend us. But now we ne protection from them. Armies and interferers don't contribute to human happiness."
