SAMAWA, Iraq (AFP) ??” Four Iraqis working for a French aid arrange in the southern city of Samawa were killed through "militiamen" in the area of Najaf further north in a case of mistaken identity, their employer said.

The workers were "summarily executed" upon Friday by militiamen after they were mistakenly implicated in a car bombing, the Paris-based Agency for Technical Cooperation and exhibition (ACTED) said.

The four men were driving near Najaf en way to Karbala when a car bomb went opposite to and were "immediately arrested by dint of militiamen at the scene," ACTED said in a statement.

"In the ensuing panic, they were suspected of being accessories to the attack and were summarily execut it would be seen by members of this militia," the aid arrange added.
