Bush arrived in of recent origin York late Wednesday after a rally in Columbus, Ohio, where he said he would lay abroad a vision "for a safer world and a more hopeful America."

In closing the four-day convention, Bush will showcase his credentials as a tough and unwavering leader and largely ignore his Democratic rival Kerry who came subject to a hail of fire Wednesday from Vice President Dick Cheney.

In a sweeping language playing on American fears of terrorism, Cheney said the United States was caught up in a worldwide war that it had to win, and the same that Kerry did not have the element to fight.
